Sustainability:
Sustainability – economic, social and environmental – is one of five central brand values for The Hotel Britomart. To ensure high performance benchmarks and accountability for its sustainability commitments, The Hotel Britomart is accredited by and in the process of aligning with recognised organisations that advise on and evaluate sustainability performance. These include the New Zealand Green Building Council, which administers the Green Star certification within New Zealand, Toitū Envirocare, who currently work with Cooper and Company to assess carbon emissions for the Britomart precinct and The Landing, and Qualmark, New Zealand tourism’s official quality assurance organisation.
Additionally, the hotel has committed to the Tiaki Promise, a commitment among New Zealand tourism industry organisations to care for New Zealand and encourage visitors to do the same, as well as Tourism Industry Aotearoa’s Tourism Sustainability Commitment, which involves undertaking 12 sustainability commitments in economic, visitor, community and environmental categories.
The Hotel Britomart offers New Zealand's first hotel-led regenerative travel experience - Nourishing Nature - a tour that takes guests into New Zealand’s beautiful native bush for an immersive sensory adventure that gives back to the planet and local community. Catering to the growing number of travellers considering the environmental and social impacts of their trip, the half-day (four hour) visit to a ‘native forest farm’ teaches guests to harvest native herbs and plant ingredients to be later used in a delicious taster, educates them on local traditions and enables them to learn how reforesting native bush helps New Zealand’s rich biodiversity flourish.
