Aotea Centre's ASB Theatre Renamed to Honour Soprano

The Aotea Centre’s ASB Theatre is set to be renamed Kiri Te Kanawa Theatre as a tribute to one of the world’s greatest sopranos on 20 November 2019.

A gala concert will celebrate the occasion with the legendary New Zealand soprano, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, as the guest of honour on the day at the Aotea Centre.

ASB Bank has held the naming rights to the theatre since its opening, and its decision to relinquish these rights makes this tribute possible.

The Aotea Centre was officially opened by Dame Kiri Te Kanawa in September 1990, unveiling a 1.6m bronze sculpture of herself by Terry Stringer that still graces the foyer today.

Located in the Aotea Arts Precinct, the Kiri Te Kanawa Theatre in the
Aotea Centre is New Zealand’s largest tiered auditorium with seating
for more than 2,100 people.

Park Hyatt Auckland

Park Hyatt Auckland opens in 2020

Overlooking Waitematā Harbour, Park Hyatt Auckland is a sophisticated, waterfront residence that enriches guests with authentic and intimate experiences.

Paying tribute to the local culture, the hotel is inspired by the Māori wharenui (house). Just as the wharenui is fundamental to Māori life and the beating heart of New Zealand's indigenous culture, the hotel is a place of gathering that brings families, communities and tribes together in Auckland, a welcoming haven to locals and visitors alike.

The hotel's exterior centres on the notion of a Māori cloak around the building, evoking a layer of warmth, privacy and beauty. As guests enter the hotel, native totara pouwhenua (carvings) line the entrances to welcome them. Stylish and spacious guest rooms incorporate Māori accents, such as custom designed tukutuku panels and rugs, made from New Zealand wool.

The hotel's dynamic culinary and event spaces are purposefully designed
for guests to socialise, dine and relax across different occasions.
Situated on the ground level, the open-concept Living Room invites
travellers and passers-by to enjoy delicious local produce alongside
panoramic water views. Residents and locals will experience authentic
and personalised service, creating lasting memories.

Spark Arena

Spark Arena recently celebrated their first birthday going fully compostable!

It's hard to believe, but all of the hot food and drink serveware that is used at Spark Arena is made from plants and breaks down into quality compost in just three months!

From September last year, all single-use cups and hot food packaging were replaced with carefully-sourced plant-based alternatives from reputable local suppliers Innocent Packaging and Ecoware. Compostable waste, which includes cups, lids, straws, cutlery, napkins, food boxes, and food waste, gets delivered directly to Envirofert (a local composting plant), where it is transformed into compost for Kiwi farmers.

Keep an eye out for the compost bins next time you are at a Spark Arena event!
